Howto 2nd pass encoding
Ok, now say you have capped or encoded a file in avi format, and you need to compress it, well one of the best ways to do this is to use Virtual Dub and 2 nd pass Encoding
1)“ Download k-lite
codec pack
(this will have all the goodies “ such as xvid-wm9- divx, etc, etc)

2) Install the codec packs to your local hard drive
(3) Now you will need to download the software that will compress your video files
Virtual dub is a free and powerful program

(3) To install this program all you need to do is extract it to a chosen folder
(4) Now
open up Virtual Dub from the folder you chose,
You're ready to begin 2 nd pass encoding.
(5)Press Cntrl O to open up the avi video file
6)click video->fast recompress
7)click video->compression (a new box will pop up)
8)Select divx this should come up as you installed the codec packs | if not go back to step 1
9)click configure (new pop up with divx encoding settings
10)In Variable Bitrate Mode Select Multipass 1st pass
In Encoding Bitrate move the slider to you reach something like 3000 kbps
11) Click
ok to accept changes and then ok once again(this should bring you back to video file.
12)Press f7
choose a name to recompress the file something like yourvideo1
!important make sure Don't run this job now is ticked
13) Press cntrl p, hit configure
14)This time
In Variable Bitrate Mode
Select Multipass nth pass
In Encoding Bitrate move the slider to you reach something
like 512 kbps
15) Click ok to accept changes and then ok once again(this should bring you back to video file.
16)Click Audio à Full Processing Mode
17)Click Audio -> Compression
Choose Mpeg
Layer and then 128kbit or something close
18)Press f7
Like step 12
choose a name to recompress the file something like yourvideo2
!important make sure Don't run this job now is ticked
19)Press f4
Click Start and then you're
done
